What are your team’s top achievements from the GirlsBuild project?

Our project focused on civic engagement, specifically on matters surrounding voting literacy. The purpose of the Lunch and Learn was to get young girls to gain awareness about the importance of voting and how to deal with gender discrimination in the work force. With this workshop, the girls either pre-registered to vote or registered to vote. To continue our mission, we set a booth up during our district Women's History Assembly which is open to the entire city of Pasadena. Here, people from all over Pasadena were able to learn about the importance of voting, as well as being able to pre-register/register to vote.

What will be in the long term outcomes to the community?

This project will have a positive impact by allowing the young population of Pasadena to be further educated about the importance of voting. We hope to increase the voting registration and pre- registration in our school and our community. With this, we wish to expand awareness about voting and showing your voice to better our future.

Reflection

This year was our first year back from a break! In following years, we plan to serve our school and community by bringing awareness to topics we believe need to be vocalized. Moving forward, we need to be more active on social media to promote and expand our projects and missions. We hope to expand our mission to serve not just girls but also have the opportunity to educate the male population of our school.
